Thinking about a boudoir session?

Boudoir sessions are sexy, classy, photos of just you. Everyone has their own idea of what sexy is and also their own comfort level in front of the camera. I tailor the session to who you are and what you are comfortable with. These sessions can be as risqué or not risqué as you would like. I have had some sessions where the client is fully clothed and alternately, I have had some sessions where the client is completely nude. Either way, if my client feels beautiful, then the session is a success.

I believe all women are beautiful and boudoir is a way for them to see themselves in a positive light as I do.

Here are some common questions I encounter:

1)      How far in advance should I plan my session?

This depends on what type of product you are looking for. Most of my clients order an album from their session. Between album design, your approval of the album and the time the album takes at the printer, this item does take a while to have in your hands. If you are interested in an album, I recommend doing your session at least 2 months before the date you need the album.

Any other type of product, prints, gallery wraps, etc. take less time to produce. If you don’t want an album, I would book your session at least a month before you need the product in your hands.

Every studio is different so you would want to check with the studio you are working with to see what their production times are.

2)      Where are these sessions held?

Our boudoir sessions are held in a boutique hotel typically in DC. I book the room for several days and I have girls lined up in different time slots throughout the day. I have a gap of time in between sessions so that my clients don’t run into each other. The only person they will see at the session is me. J

3)      What can I do to prep for my session?

Go shopping! You will want to pick two outfits that go with the colors in the room. For example, I shoot a lot at Hotel Rouge and the colors in that room are overwhelmingly red. You wouldn’t want a red outfit in that room, it would just be too much red. I talk to all of my clients on the phone about outfits, accessories and props to help them find something they are comfortable in and coordinated with the background colors.

Book professional hair and makeup! I can’t stress enough how important professional styling is. I actually wrote a whole post on the importance of hair and makeup. You can check it out here

*I have limited space in my sessions and they do book up quickly. So if you are thinking about it, I say go for it! Boudoir is really fun and one of my favorite things to shoot.
